WHAT IS
DALGONA COFFEE
Dalgona coffee is
essentially creamed coffee. It is composed of only four simple ingredients:
instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk.
A bowl containing coffee, sugar, and hot water is whisked until
it reaches a creamy, velvety, and firm peak consistency. This coffee foam is
then poured over your choice of cold or warm milk. Done!
In recent months, as more individuals have been self-isolating
and remaining at home, preparing dalgona coffee at home has become a pleasant
new task. And I must admit, it's rather tasty as well! I hope you will join us.
Earlier this year, Dalgona coffee was first highlighted on a
Korean television program.
The term "dalgona" derives from a traditional Korean
street food that tastes similar to honeycomb toffee. The preparation of dalgona
is similar to that of whipped coffee, hence a television personality gave the
coffee this moniker.
To be fair, however, whipped coffee is not new. Some claim that
this inverted coffee is identical to Frappe or Indian cappuccino.
Regardless of its origin, whipped coffee is incredibly simple,
quick, and enjoyable to prepare. My family believes it is significantly
superior to the coffee served in local cafes. Just saying! 😉 Hope you enjoy it!
INGREDIENTS,
SERVES 1
· 1 tablespoon of instant coffee
(I used Moccona vanilla praline, which is delicious!)

1 Tbsp sugar
·
1 Tbsp hot water
·
3/4 to 1 cup of your choice of
chilled or warm milk
·
(optional) ice cubes
* 1 Tbsp = 15 ml
** This recipe has not been
tested with other types of coffee (such as freshly ground coffee, etc.).
However, many who have tried these coffees have stated that they are inferior
to instant coffee. They do not receive the same creamy status.
HOW TO
MAKE DALGONA COFFEE
In a mixing bowl, combine instant coffee, sugar, and boiling water. Mix thoroughly. Then, using a handheld mixer (stand mixer or milk frother), whisk the coffee mixture on high speed until stiff peaks form (2-4 mins).
