One night when I was extremely hungry and
desperate for a quick meal, I tried this revised method and it worked so well
that I've used it solely ever since! It is very wonderful. I do not know why I
did not consider this earlier. In addition, it shaves 5 to 10 minutes off the
original process and allows for the addition of additional seasonings. Hello,
crisp and speedy tofu!
A block of tofu on a towel to illustrate one
of the steps for making the crispiest tofu.
Step 1: Tofu that isn't extremely firm will
not crisp up as quickly or as well. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190
degrees Celsius) and wrap extra firm tofu in a kitchen towel.
Step 2: Cube the tofu and place it in a bowl.
Depending on the type of cuisine you're preparing, season with curry powder,
tamari, or chili garlic sauce. I chose curry powder because I was adding it to
a green curry (coming later in the week!).
Step 3: 5 minutes, or until both sides are
browned, sauté in oil over medium heat (shaking the pan as needed to cook all
sides).
Step 4:Finish baking in the oven for
approximately 15 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Please, thank you.
What shall we do with the crispy tofu? Add it
to salads, curries, and other dishes! While well-seasoned on the exterior, it
will still benefit from a robust sauce, such as my stir-fry glaze, Almond
Butter Tofu Glaze, or an upcoming green curry sauce!
