Some say that high cholesterol occurs only in the elderly. Indeed, this health problem is more common in adults or the elderly, but if children adopt an unhealthy lifestyle, they may also experience the same health problems. They use unhealthy eating patterns as one of the causes.

Foods that can cause high cholesterol in children

Many children don't like healthy foods like vegetables and fruits, health experts say. Savory and delicious foods, such as fast food or fried foods, are usually what they like. These foods apparently increase the chances of developing high cholesterol.

The high content of bad fats in fried foods and fast food is the cause. If children eat these foods frequently, their cholesterol levels will increase, which in turn will cause plaque to stick to the blood vessels.

Fast food and fried foods also often contain a lot of calories. If consumed every day, weight can increase, and the risk of obesity will also increase. Nonetheless, obesity can also cause high cholesterol.

Food additives that may increase the risk of high cholesterol

Fast food and fried foods are generally considered unhealthy, but health experts say there are several other foods to avoid to prevent high cholesterol.

Here are those foods.

1.     Quail eggs

One type of egg that Indonesians really like because it tastes good. You can make quail eggs with side dishes, satay or other food mixtures. Unfortunately, excessive or too frequent consumption of quail eggs increases the risk of developing high cholesterol.

In 100 grams of quail eggs, you can get about 844 mg of cholesterol. Despite this, a day's consumption of cholesterol should be no more than 300 mg.

2.     Yolk

Egg yolks are better than egg whites because of their stronger taste. Unfortunately, excessive consumption increases the risk of having an increase in bad cholesterol in the blood.

This is because 100 grams of egg yolk contains 1,085 mg of cholesterol. Luckily, health professionals say that eating one or two eggs every day is still safe for your health.

3.     Squid

It turns out that this chewy seafood is high in cholesterol. There are 260 mg of cholesterol in 100 grams of squid. If squid is fried, floured, or made with coconut milk, cholesterol levels can rise, which is more harmful to your health.

4.     Processed meat

We often eat processed meats such as sausages, ham, corned beef, nuggets, and so on as a side dish, especially at breakfast, because they are easy to process but have a good taste. The problem is that processed meats have high levels of bad cholesterol.

Too often, consuming it can also increase blood pressure. This is due to the high sodium content in it. According to some health experts, eating processed meat regularly can also increase the risk of cancer due to the chemicals in it.

5.     Shellfish

Mussels also contain a lot of cholesterol. There are 166 mg of cholesterol in 85 grams. Excessive drinking can increase cholesterol levels.
